Hey there GringoMundo!
Just
had to tell you how much I enjoy the site. I'm purchasing a Gringa
shirt straight away.
I wanted to share my experience as a gringa in a very
Latino world. I am
the pastry chef in a large
Washington, DC kitchen.
Washington, DC has
one of the largest populations of Salvadoreans
outside of El Salvador.
In this kitchen I have had the honor and pleasure of working with quite
a few Salvadoreanos...in fact most of the time I am the only gringo/a
around.

Our conversations are in Spanish. Our music is
in Spanish. Our meals are in Spanish. Our news is in Spanish. I have
become part of this large, loud, loving, loyal, creative, passionate
group of people and consider them my extended family. This year we
celebrated Christmas together...please see the shot of my pupusas
(above) that were deemed perfecto. Followed by many toasts and a
long evening of dancing bachata y cumbia.

Though now my Latino family won't call me a
gringa anymore, because "en mi corazon soy Salvadorena" I just wanted to
say thanks for this site where I can read about the adventures of others
just like myself.
Cheers-
Eileen

I often wonder if most Americans realize that
the majority of their food is prepared
by hard working Latino men and women (most without official culinary
training) and not some fancy executive chef.
